Lead Service Lines
Des Moines Water Works conducts annual tests at homes with suspected lead water service lines to check lead levels in the drinking water. As a result of this testing, DMWW has no reason to believe there are elevated levels of lead. Lead may be present in piping and plumbing fixtures found in customers’ homes. Homes constructed before 1940 may be served by a lead water service line. Copper pipe installed before 1985 may have been installed using lead-containing solder. Use the below search function to view the tap date of your property or contact Customer Service at (515) 283-8700. Those who are identified as potentially having a lead service line may have water from their home tested for lead by DMWW free of charge. See Lead Service Line FAQ for more information.
