Hydrant Meters

Des Moines Water Works issues hydrant meters to qualified contractors or civic organizations when alternate sources of water supply are not available. Meters are issued for a specified time period not to exceed eight months. All hydrant meters issues shall be used only at the location specified on the application and may not be moved without permission from DMWW.

There is a limited supply of hydrant meters, and they are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.  City, County, and State projects are given higher priority.

To request a hydrant meter, please call 515.283.8700. Meters can be picked up between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. A meter deposit based on meter size will apply. In addition, a flat monthly availability charge will apply.  Reads must be called in to DMWW monthly.

For more information about hydrant meters, call 515.283.8700 or review DMWW’s Rules & Regulations.
