Grant Request for Water Fountain/Bottle Station
Des Moines Water Works (DMWW) is committed to educating and engaging the public about important environmental issues. Additionally, much value is placed in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with community partners.
Recent attention to the adverse environmental impacts of bottled water (not to mention price and, often times, the quality of the water) has increased the use of reusable water bottles filled with local tap water. Des Moines Water Works is seeking applications from area attractions and public buildings (within Des Moines Water Works service area) that will install a filling station for reusable water bottles, donated by Des Moines Water Works.
Our intent in providing a bottle filling station is to promote the availability of Des Moines’ quality tap water to visitors, staff and volunteers of your building, and to reduce the amount of bottled beverages purchased and improperly discarded in landfills. This supports Des Moines Water Works’ mission to promote quality, affordable and convenient tap water. Your building receives the benefit of a capital improvement donation which highlights your environmentally-conscious image, a value shared by many visitors and guests.
Most recently, DMWW has donated water bottle filling units to the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, Blank Park Zoo and the Science Center of Iowa. DMWW and these facilities have received many positive comments from guests and visitors about these environmentally-friendly placements. Most notably, the unit features a ticker display that lets users know how many plastic bottles have been eliminated by using the bottle filling unit.
The building/organization receiving the donated bottle filling unit will be responsible for installation and maintenance of the unit. Specifications for the Elkay® water bottle filling unit will be provided after an application is submitted.
If applicable, customers and visitors can be encouraged to refill reusable water bottles at the bottle filling station. DMWW may be willing to partner with your organization to design a co-branded water bottle for your gift shop and concession areas.
Des Moines Water Works would request a small, permanent sign above the water cooler that indicates users are getting quality water from Des Moines Water Works.
Thank you for considering this exciting partnership between your organization and Des Moines Water Works. We look forward to a future partnership.
If you have questions, please contact Laura Sarcone at firstname.lastname@example.org or (515) 283-8705.
To be considered for the donation of a water bottle filling unit in calendar year 2016, please submit the application by June 30. Applications received after June 30, will considered for future donations.
