Iowa Children's Water Festival (ICWF)

Iowa Children's Water Festival

Des Moines Water Works (DMWW) began the annual Iowa Children's Water Festival (ICWF) in Amazing Giant BubblesMay of 1997. In 1999, the Iowa Association of Water Agencies (IAWA) took over its leadership, but DMWW employees have remained an integral part of the Steering Committee, as well as serving as volunteers on the day of the Festival. Nine Iowa agencies are presently involved on the Steering Committee - partnerships that are vital to the ICWF's continued success.

Playing Water JeopardyThe ICWF has been held at Des Moines Area Community College since its inception. Fifth graders from throughout the state are invited to attend this FREE one-day event to learn about the wonders of water. About two thousand students from across the state have participated in each Festival. Over 60 presenters and exhibitors from across the state volunteer their time to provide a unique opportunity for children to learn about the many aspects of water through interactive learning activities. Students also get to watch a stage show, as well as participate in a game.
