Owner Information
Recognizing that you, as a landlord, have unique customer needs, Des Moines Water Works has provided you with an electronic form to assist you in better managing your properties and protecting your interests. Because of the protection it affords you, landlords are encouraged to complete the form for each property you own or manage. Hardcopies of the form may also be obtained by contacting Des Moines Water Works at (515) 283-8700.
You may request any or all of the following:
Lien Exemption
When charges on a tenant’s finaled account are not paid, Des Moines Water Works may place a lien against the property per Iowa Code, Section 384.84. If your property is separately metered, residential, rental property occupied by a tenant, you may request exemption from the possibility of lien for water service in accordance with Section 384.84. Please note that DMWW must receive a new written notice within thirty business days of a change in occupancy or within 10 business days of a change in ownership.
Request for Notice
By selecting this option and completing the lower portion of the form, you request to be notified by mail when a tenant is past due on his/her water bill. By receiving notification, you may further encourage your tenant to pay their bill (or arrange for payment on their behalf) so your stop box is not operated, avoiding the potential for costly stop box repairs. This option may be selected at any time during a tenant’s occupancy and remains with the property. It is not necessary to re-request this option for a service address as tenants change.
Change of Account
By selecting this option, Des Moines Water Works will not turn water service off when a tenant moves out, but will instead transfer services to your name. Although you will be responsible for any metered or non-metered charges, this prevents the stop box from being operated and avoids the risk of costly stop box repairs. This option may be selected at any time during a tenant’s occupancy and remains with the property until you request otherwise. It is not necessary to re-request this option for a service address as tenants change.
