Career Opportunities: Culture

Regardless of what position or title you have at Des Moines Water Works, every employee contributes to the quality of life for all citizens within the Des Moines Metro area.  Do you have the mindset and attitude to contribute to this level of quality?

Even before the green movement became popular, Des Moines Water Works practiced a number of "green-friendly" initiatives, which we continue today.    We are members of the Climate Registry, which is a nonprofit collaboration among North American states, provinces, territories and Native Sovereign Nations that sets consistent and transparent standards to calculate, verify and publicly report greenhouse gas emissions into a single registry.  You can learn more about Climate Registry at www.theclimateregistry.org.

Des Moines Water Works will be one of eleven Iowa organizations and businesses to receive Environmental Excellence awards from Governor Chet Culver on June 28 at Honey Creek Resort State Park. DMWW will receive a Special Recognition in Water Quality award for its efforts to eliminate discharge from the nitrate removal facility through the use of Crystal Lake at the McMullen Treatment Plant as well as the ponds in Water Works Park. Recognizing leadership and innovation in the protection of Iowa’s natural resources, the awards are the premier environmental honors in Iowa.

At our water treatment plant, we have set aside some land for our employees to plant a vegetable garden.  This is an opportunity for our employees to do something green along with assisting them to eat healthier.  We also provide a pool of bikes for our employees to use between the plant and the main administrative building so they don't have to take their cars to go to the other location for meetings.
