  2009 Gold Well Workplace Award
Well Workplace Gold Award - 2009The Wellness Council of America and the State of Iowa, presented Des Moines Water Works a Gold Level Well Workplace Award.  The Well Workplace awards recognize companies that have implemented and demonstrated measurable success in employee wellness programming. Areas of focus include smoking cessation, nutrition, physical fitness, self-care, and stress management.

Income Protection
  Long Term Disability
  • Coverage pays 60% of salary after 6 months of disability
  Sick Leave
  • Employees are credited with 24 hours after 3 months employment, and then accrue approximately 96 hours per year. No accrual limit.
  Term Life Insurance
  • Coverage is equal to annual salary rounded to the next $500
  • Includes accidental death and dismemberment for one times salary
  Supplemental Life Insurance
  • Additional term life insurance may be purchased for yourself, your spouse, or your children through post-tax payroll deductions

Retirement Planning
  DMWW Defined Benefits Pension or Iowa Public Employee’s Retirement System (IPERS)
  Deferred Compensation
  • Employees can defer pre-tax income into investment options for retirement. DMWW will match $1.00 for every $2.00 employee contribution up to 6% of annual income according to years of service. (similar to 401k)

Work Life Balance
  Vacation
  • Employees are credited with 20 hours after 3 months employment, then accrued based on years of service with DMWW
  • Employees will accrue 80 hours of vacation during their first year
  • Employees may purchase additional vacation each benefit year
  Holidays
  • Eight paid holidays
  • Two paid floating holidays
  Personal Hours
  • Employees may earn 2 hours for each month with no absence
  Bereavement Leave
  • One to five working days for each death in the family
